Job description

Powerus is building a next-generation American autonomous systems platform designed to move, protect, and sustain critical assets in high-consequence environments. The company combines advanced autonomy, manufacturing capability, operational expertise, and strategic acquisitions to support defense, national security, critical infrastructure, and commercial operations globally.

Mission

Our mission is to deliver resilient autonomous technologies that strengthen national security, improve operational safety, and expand the capabilities of organizations operating in complex environments.

Why Join Powerus

The electronics on an unmanned aircraft must operate through vibration, temperature extremes, and electromagnetic noise at minimum power, built from a supply chain that meets NDAA and Blue UAS requirements.

This role designs the flight control, power, and payload interface boards in Powerus aircraft, from architecture through bring-up, qualification, and production.

Position Overview

Powerus is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design and bring up the electronics inside Powerus unmanned platforms, including schematic design, layout direction, component selection, and board bring-up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design schematics and direct PCB layout for flight control, power, and interface boards
  • Select components against performance, availability, cost, and NDAA requirements
  • Lead board bring-up, validation, and debug with embedded software engineers
  • Design power distribution, regulation, and protection for airborne systems
  • Address signal integrity, thermal, and EMI/EMC in design
  • Develop test fixtures and procedures for validation and production test
  • Support environmental and vibration qualification of electronic assemblies
  • Maintain hardware documentation, BOMs, and revision control
Qualifications
  • Must be located in the United States, within commuting distance of Rock Hill, SC
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience taking boards from schematic through layout, fabrication, and bring-up
  • Working knowledge of power electronics, digital interfaces, and mixed-signal design
  • Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bench debug
  • Experience selecting components against supply and compliance constraints
  • U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)); this role involves access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with UAS, robotics, aerospace, or automotive electronics
  • Familiarity with NDAA Section 848 and Blue UAS component sourcing
  • Experience with motor drives, ESCs, or battery management systems
  • Experience supporting a board through production ramp
  • Active or prior U.S. security clearance
What We Look For

Candidates should have owned a board from first article to flight or field use and be able to describe a defect found at bring-up.
