Job summary

Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) seeks a Full-Time Mechanical Engineer GS-0830-12 to join the 628th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Charleston, SC. The role supports design, development and construction of facilities and infrastructure to execute the base mission, collaborating with 67 mission partners to deliver efficient projects.

Qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen with a Secret clearance and an ABET-accredited mechanical engineering degree (or equivalent).

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • ABET-accredited mechanical engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in design, construction management, or lifecycle activities.
  • Experience with design parameters and project justifications/specifications.
  • Experience across architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural disciplines.
  • DAWIA requirements applicable to duties; current DAWIA certification is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, contracting regulations related to facilities engineering.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and funding restrictions.
  • Ability to prepare preliminary & construction drawings and convey design concepts.

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Mechanical Engineer GS-0830-12 to work at the 628th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Charleston in Charleston, SC.

Come to Joint Base Charleston where you’ll have the rare opportunity to be a member of our exceptional Engineering Flight collaborating with 67 mission partners. Our organizational goals and objectives ensure the most efficient, practical and economical design, development and construction of facilities and infrastructure to execute the facilities program and support the Joint Base installation mission.

Recruitment Incentive may be offered Salary Range $89,508 - $116,362

Qualifications/Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Education requirements: Degree accredited by ABET or combination of education and experience-- https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/mechanical-engineering-series-0830/
  • At least 2 years desired experience of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of engineering, construction management, life cycle management, etc. and related assignments
  • At least 2 years desired experience of design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications
  • At least 2 years desired experience with related fields of work such as architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, environmental and civil engineering sufficient to ensure that areas of overlapping responsibilities receive proper design considerations
  • May be required to serve on Architect and Engineer boards
  • May act as project liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies as required
  • You must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position, current DAWIA certification is highly desired.
  • Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state and local codes and regulations; of standard contracting regulations, practices and procedures as it relates to facilities engineering
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and/or technical orders
  • Knowledge of environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations and current legislative issues; of work classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of appropriated and non-appropriated funds
  • Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches and construction drawings; and technique/ Skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings
