Job summary

The Air Force Civilian Service is seeking a General Engineer (NH-0801-03) to work with the AFLCMC at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The role focuses on training simulator architecture, cloud computing, software engineering, and cybersecurity within a MOSA framework. Leadership of complex IT projects in a large IT environment is essential.

U.S. Citizenship is required. A BS in engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required; Computer Engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.
• This position requires travel.

• DAWIA Engineering/Technical Management Practitioner Certification expected within 5 years of hire.
• Cybersecurity certification per DoDM 8140.03; CompTIA Security+ with Continuing Learning acceptable within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications/Requirements

Simulators Common Architecture Requirements and Standard (SCARS) is a sustainment initiative to incrementally establish a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) for Air Force simulators that leverages applications, supports efficient and rapid updates to capabilities, evolves with cybersecurity threats and controls, and minimizes life cycle costs. Requires experience in leading complex projects in a large Information Technology (IT) environment, preferably in a cloud environment. Requires experience with systems security engineering and meeting cyber security requirements.

• Position requires a BS engineering degree from an ABET accredited program. Computer Engineering degree is preferred but not required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.

• Key technologies are training simulator architecture, cloud computing, software engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Risk Management Framework, and Distributed Mission Operations.
• This position requires a DAWIA Engineering and Technical Management Practitioner Certification which can be obtained within 5 years of hire.
• This position requires a cybersecurity certification compliance with DoDM 8140.03. CompTia Security + with Continuous Learning is an acceptable certification and may be obtained within 12 months of hire.

KSAs

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in order to produce and present highly technical reports, position papers, and briefings; resolve conflicts based on mature judgment and experience; effectively negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships.
• Professional knowledge and skill in the technical functions of computer science, computer/software architecture, and software engineering in support of systems acquisition activities, including integrated product development and associated functions (e.g., development, planning, and systems integration).
• Skill in preparing management response and conducting technical presentations for planning, implementation and correction, especially as related to software and interfaces for training simulator subsystems.
• Knowledge and understanding of agency, USAF, DoD laws, principles, policies, and practices of systems acquisition and program management related to assigned systems.
• Ability to lead a technical team in support of source selection, design reviews, configuration audits, inspections, etc., especially as related to software and interfaces for assigned systems.
• Ability to perform engineering studies, analyses and trade offs to optimize systems and subsystems performances to best satisfy operational objectives and enhance Air Force core competencies.
• Ability to meet and deal effectively with others at various levels.
• Ability to support integrated product teams to integrate training systems into an enterprise architecture.
• Ability to provide technical leadership in planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts used to define total systems/subsystem requirements, translate requirements into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches, and develop system specifications.
• Ability to support several phases of the acquisition process in which the employee guides and evaluates the design, development, integration, test, and sustainment of training systems.
• Ability to lead and participate in Technical Interchange Meetings, Working Groups, and Program Management Reviews.
