Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Hampton, NJ is seeking a Mechanical Designer to design mechanical components and subsystems for professional cordless, pneumatic, and electric power tools. You will work within cross-functional NPD teams leading the design from concept through production release, using Creo or similar CAD tools.

The ideal candidate has strong CAD skills, practical engineering knowledge, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, with ownership of design decisions and collaboration

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience designing mechanical or electromechanical products.
• 5+ years of experience with Creo, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or equivalent CAD systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and product subsystems using Creo or similar 3D CAD tools.
• Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and product documentation.
• Lead design activities for drivetrains, gear systems, mechanisms, housings, and structural components.
• Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM, and DFA principles to ensure robust product designs.
• Support prototype builds, product validation, issue resolution, and production launches.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and suppliers to optimize performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Participate in design reviews, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support engineering change management and product lifecycle activities.
