Role Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to facilitate the creation and maintenance of Engineering Product Data (3D models, drawings, and BOMs) at Bruker AXS LLC in Kirkland, Washington. The role involves working closely with R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers to create CAD models, drawings, and BOMs throughout the product lifecycle, supporting research projects and prototypes through to initial production release, and executing design changes during assembly, testing, and post-delivery. The Kirkland facility is expected to grow rapidly, and this role primarily focuses on preparing Engineering Product Data for the initial production of new products in a new manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  1. Create new mechanical part and assembly models in SolidWorks following the direction of R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers.
  2. Create new mechanical part and assembly drawings in SolidWorks.
  3. Set up professional drawing sheet formats, templates in SolidWorks.
  4. Update legacy models and drawings to latest standards and formats.
  5. Execute design changes within an Engineering Change Management process following the guidance of R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers.
  6. Create Engineering Data Packages (drawing, model, BOM) for each production release.
  7. Support development and improvement of configuration management practices.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field.
  • Experience in scientific instrument development or industries with low-volume precision machined components.
  • Experience developing drawings according to ASME Y14.100.

Skills

  • Proficient in mechanical design using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Proficient in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as milling, turning, EDM, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, welding, brazing, soldering.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient with ISO 8015 GPS, ISO 2768 Tolerances.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 QMS organizations.
  • Experience with PWB and electronic circuit card assembly mechanical models and drawings.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical drawings.

At Bruker, the base salary ranges from $91,439 to $142,000, with opportunities for growth. The actual salary depends on education, experience, skills, and location.
