Job summary

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business with a global footprint, focused on planning, design, and facilities management for DoD and federal clients. The Mechanical Design Manager will lead design projects for VA hospital programs, coordinating with the PDT and external consultants to ensure timely and cost-effective outcomes.

The role is anchored in Reno, NV with occasional travel to Seattle, WA, requiring a US-resident candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing assigned design projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
• Able to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations, and directives.
• Able to provide clear guidance to all lower level acquisition personnel.
• Must lawfully reside in the United States and eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects consistent with VA planning goals and PMP standards, ensuring on-time, within-budget delivery.
• Coordinate with the Project Development Team to define project scope for space efficiency and lifecycle cost optimization.
• Oversee DOR selection and consultant work within budget/time parameters, conducting design reviews as required.
• Ensure design deliverables meet contract cost and schedule, and participate in cross-functional meetings.
• Develop and implement design/construction standards aligned with BA sustainability plans and occupancy readiness.
• Monitor project design against budget authorization and schedules, providing timely issue resolution.
