Job summary

Planate Management Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead design projects for VA facilities, ensuring the design meets scope, schedule, and cost targets. Based in Reno, NV with occasional travel to Seattle, WA, you will coordinate with the Project Development Team and consultants to deliver high-quality, compliant designs that satisfy functional and lifecycle requirements.

This full-time role requires a Mechanical Engineering background, PE certification preferred, and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of five years of experience managing design projects.
• PE certification preferred.
• Able to analyze technical and cost data.
• Able to read acquisition policy and directives.
• Strong communication and written skills.
• Must reside in the United States and be eligible for employment.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects consistent with planning and design goals; ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.
• Coordinate with the PDT to define project scope reflecting input of departments.
• Apply project management standards to meet deadlines; adjust procedures as needed.
• Work with PM and CO to procure qualified engineers/architects as designers of record.
• Oversee DOR and consultants to ensure quality design within cost and schedule; conduct design reviews.
• Develop design and construction standards aligned with BA sustainability and occupancy readiness.
• Monitor design against budget and schedules; drive timely decision making.
• Resolve outstanding design issues; act as a design solution consultant.
• Review contracts and specifications to ensure compliance and cost effectiveness.
• Support other PDT tasks to deliver project designs and PMP.
