Planate Management Group (PMG) is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead and manage assigned design projects for VA facilities in Reno, NV, ensuring alignment with the project management plan, budget, and schedule.

The role requires a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of project design experience, and PE certification preferred; strong communication and cost-awareness are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of five years of experience managing assigned design projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
• Able to conduct research and analysis of technical and cost data.
• Able to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations and directives.
• Able to provide clear guidance to acquisition personnel.
• Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas).

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects consistent with VA PMP goals and standards.
• Coordinate with Project Development Team to define scope and optimize program space and lifecycle cost.
• Apply project management standards to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.
• Select and procure qualified engineers/architects as design of record within cost and time parameters.
• Oversee DOR and consultants, conduct design reviews, and participate in cross-functional meetings.
• Contribute to development of design and construction standards and sustainability alignment.
• Monitor design against budget and schedules; resolve issues promptly.
• Review contracts and specifications for compliance and cost effectiveness.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
