Job summary

Planate Management Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead VA hospital design projects from planning through execution. You will coordinate with the Project Development Team, select engineers/architects, and ensure designs meet budget, scope, and quality standards.

Responsibilities include monitoring progress, guiding cross-functional teams, and enforcing design and construction standards aligned with sustainability goals. Travel to Reno and Seattle area as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing assigned design projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
• Able to conduct comprehensive research and analysis of technical and cost data.
• Able to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations, and directives.
• Able to provide clear guidance to all lower level acquisition personnel.
• Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must lawfully reside in the United States and eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects per VA PMP; ensure on-time and within-budget delivery.
• Coordinate with Project Development Team to define scope and optimize space efficiency and lifecycle cost.
• Apply project management standards to ensure quality design deliverables within cost and schedule.
• Assist PM and CO in procuring qualified engineers/architects as designer of record.
• Oversee DOR and consultants; lead design reviews and cross-functional meetings.
• Develop and implement design/construction standards aligned with sustainability plans.
• Monitor design against budget authorization and project schedules.
• Resolve design issues and improve cost effectiveness of facility design processes.
• Review contracts, scopes, specs, and codes to ensure milestones and deliverables are met.
