Job summary

Toyota Material Handling North America is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-Op for Summer/Fall 2027 at the Rochester, NY office. You will design mechanical components and systems for cutting-edge energy solutions, perform hands-on testing, analyze data, and generate reports under mentorship from engineers.

The role emphasizes DFMs, collaboration with Product, Manufacturing, Reliability, and Test Engineering, and real-world deployment of solutions in industrial vehicles and energy

Qualifications

• GPA 2.8 or higher.
• Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Software Engineering degree program.
• Onsite at Rochester, NY Summer 2027 and/or Fall 2027; junior/senior year BS or Master’s year.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for advanced energy solutions.
• Perform hands-on system troubleshooting on test benches, in R&D labs, and during vehicle-level integration testing.
• Analyze test data, extract insights, and generate technical documentation and test reports.
• Use mechanical and thermal modeling to guide design improvements in battery and fuel cell technologies.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to reduce production costs and improve quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Manufacturing, Reliability, and Test Engineering to create robust designs.
• Present design concepts and test results clearly to diverse audiences.
• Contribute to deployment of solutions into real-world industrial vehicles and energy systems.

The Role:

We’re seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineering Co-Op to join our team inSummer and/or Fall 2027! This co-op hands‑on experience in where you’ll work on meaningful projects and gain insight into the design, analysis, and testing of cutting‑edge mechanical systems that power the future mobility – including lithium‑ion batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. You’ll collaborate with the Rochester Development Center team, as well as mentors and leadership, building skills that will help launch your career!

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for advanced energy solutions.
• Perform hands‑on system troubleshooting on test benches, in R&D labs, and during vehicle‑level integration testing.

What We’re Looking For:

• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
• Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Software Engineering
• Current academic year entering Junior or Senior year BS, or Master’s any year
• Available to be onsite at ourRochester, NYlocation in Summer 2027 and/or Fall 2027
