Corning is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for OCS Technology: New Product Development in Hickory, NC. The role focuses on design ownership from concept to production, collaborating with manufacturing, prototyping, and fabrication teams, and engaging with customers to define requirements.

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering, relevant experience, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities to drive robust, manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering.
• 2+ years of relevant engineering experience in product development or mechanical design.
• 1+ year of experience with CAD software, preferably Creo Parametric.
• 1+ year of experience designing components involving sheet metal and plastic molded parts.
• Understanding design for manufacturability, tolerance considerations, and engineering documentation practices.
• Familiarity with Windchill or similar PLM systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop fiber optic hardware components and assemblies in a multidisciplinary product development environment.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet requirements and are manufacturable and cost-effective.
