Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer 2/3 to join the Engineering Services Division in Los Alamos, NM, contributing to the COE program across nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. You will work on scoping, design, construction, commissioning and operation for LANL projects within a 38-square-mile Lab.

The role emphasizes assessment and design of facility systems, coordination with stakeholders, documentation, and leadership with a focus on sustainable initiatives.

Qualifications

• Advanced experience in design and principle of operation in both mechanical and plumbing facility systems.
• Expert application of building codes, standards and green initiatives related to facilities design.
• Experience creating construction contract documents for commercial and/or industrial facilities.
• Ability to support construction execution, including timely review of submittals, RFIs, design changes, non-conformance issues, commissioning documentation, and as-built documents.

Responsibilities

• Assess condition of existing facilities and infrastructure systems.
• Develop design scopes and estimate design efforts.
• Produce Construction Contract Documents.
• Interface and coordinate with project stakeholders; ensure timely engagement of third-party resources such as Sustainability and Commissioning.
• Review outside A/E designs and submittals; provide responses and document revisions.
• Mentor junior design personnel and support improvements of design and business practices.
