Job summary

Oracle in Santa Clara is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to assist in designing mechanical systems, components, and packaging. You will use CAD tools to develop 3D models, conduct basic stress analyses, and support testing for reliability and manufacturability.

The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders, with an emphasis on delivering robust designs that meet performance goals and project timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 0-2 years of hands-on mechanical design experience through full-time roles, internships, co-ops, academic projects, or related high-tech electro-mechanical work.
  • CAD experience with tools such as Creo/ProEngineer, SolidWorks, NX, or similar mechanical design platforms.
  • Foundational experience designing or supporting sheet metal, machined, plastic, die-cast, and fastened mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as stamping, bending, machining, injection molding, die casting, finishing, assembly, and inspection.
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFM/DFA, mechanical drawings, BOM creation, design documentation, and engineering change processes.
  • Ability to support prototype builds, mechanical validation, failure analysis, and production readiness activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and global stakeholders.
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs across mechanical design, thermal performance, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving, ownership, communication, documentation, and schedule-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in designing and developing mechanical systems, components, enclosures, and packaging, ensuring reliability and manufacturability.
  • Uses CAD tools to support 3D models and mechanical designs.
  • Starts basic stress analysis, strain analysis, and FEA to assess strength and reliability.
  • Addresses potential failure points to refine designs and improve reliability.
  • Supports manufacturing by adhering to project timelines and improving processes.
  • Executes prototype tests and collects data to identify bugs and failure trends.
  • Researches next-generation technologies to optimize data center and cloud products.
  • Incorporates supplier and stakeholder feedback to meet performance and cost goals.
  • Documents processes and materials to ensure clear communication and scheduling.
  • Assists with thermal analysis and design using CFD tools like FloTHERM or Icepak.
  • Performs environmental testing and validation with internal teams and labs.
  • Supports design verification and validation through test results and fixes.
