Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Minneapolis/St Paul seeks a Mechanical Department Manager to lead a cross-practice team within the Aviation & Federal division across the Upper Midwest. You’ll guide project delivery, mentor engineers, and drive profitable growth while upholding rigorous technical standards.

This role blends strategy, technical excellence, and people leadership, with responsibility for budget, QA/QC, safety policies, and client trust across major airport and government projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7–10+ years' design/PM experience.
• PE licensure in Mechanical preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the cross-practice mechanical team.
• Ensure staff loading aligns with project requirements and billable goals.
• Manage department budget and expenses.
• Prepare and present workload and financial reports.
• Provide expert technical design guidance.
• Support QA/QC and safety policies.
• Represent department in strategic discussions.
