Electronic Power Design, Inc. (EPD) is seeking a Lead Mechanical Assembler to provide technical leadership in our Manufacturing Department in Houston, TX.

The role involves mentoring junior assemblers, interpreting engineering drawings, and debugging complex assemblies while ensuring UL-891 standards and safety practices are met. You will collaborate with supervisors and quality teams to maintain production goals and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity:

EPD is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Assembler to provide technical leadership and advanced assembly support within our Manufacturing Department.

This role serves as a subject matter expert for mechanical assembly operations, helping mentor team members, ensure quality standards are maintained, and support production objectives. The Lead Mechanical Assembler works closely with Supervisors, Manufacturing Leadership, Electrical Assembly teams, and Quality personnel to maintain efficient production flow while supporting workforce development initiatives.

This position is ideal for an experienced assembler who enjoys coaching others, solving problems, and leading by example.

What You'll Do:

Advanced Mechanical Assembly

• Perform complex mechanical assembly of UL-891 switchboard frames, structures, and mechanical components.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
• Troubleshoot assembly issues and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Ensure assemblies meet quality, dimensional, and performance requirements.
• Support production schedules through efficient completion of assigned work.
• Mentor and train junior assemblers on assembly techniques, safety requirements, and quality standards.
• Assist supervisors in developing workforce capabilities and cross-training initiatives.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
• Provide coaching and support to improve productivity and workmanship.
• Serve as a technical resource for mechanical assembly personnel.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with UL-891 manufacturing requirements.
• Conduct quality inspections and verify assembly accuracy.
• Participate in audits, corrective action initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
• Support defect reduction and quality improvement efforts.
• Maintain documentation and production records accurately.

Safety & Operational Excellence

• Promote OSHA compliance and safe work practices.
• Assist supervisors with safety training and awareness programs.
• Support lean manufacturing, 5S initiatives, and process improvements.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in optimal condition.
• Foster a culture focused on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Production Support & Reporting

• Utilize Global Shop Solutions (GSS) and Microsoft Excel to track production metrics.
• Monitor assembly performance and communicate issues to leadership.
• Assist with workforce scheduling and production readiness efforts.
• Support implementation of new products and manufacturing processes.
• Participate in daily production meetings and operational reviews.

What You Bring:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical assembly experience.
• Previous experience mentoring, training, or leading team members preferred.
• Strong understanding of switchboard or industrial equipment assembly processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing equipment.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday while supporting warehouse operations and inventory activities.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to lift bulky or awkwardly shaped items weighing up to 35 pounds from floor level or above shoulder height.
• Ability to safely perform team lifts for items exceeding individual lifting limits or involving ergonomic challenges such as uneven weight distribution or repetitive motion.
• Ability to work effectively in varying environmental conditions, including heat and cold exposure.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical certificate in Manufacturing or related field.
• Experience with UL-891 switchboard manufacturing.
• Familiarity with Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
• Lean Manufacturing or 5S training.
• Experience coaching and developing production personnel.
• Mechanical Safety Training certification.
