Job description

We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Mechanic Welder at our power plant facility located in Springerville, AZ. The Springerville Generating Station operates four coal-fired units with a combined generating capacity of over 1600 megawatts of power. Although we will be retiring two of the units we operate and maintain at this facility by 2032, we continue to work together to generate safe, clean, reliable power to enhance our families, customers, and communities.

Position Description:

An employee in this classification will normally perform as a Maintenance Mechanic II and will use his/her welding skills as called upon. This position must be certified in all types of welding required for maintenance and repair in a steam generation facility. This position is required to maintain proficiency and periodic re-certification is mandatory. Mechanic responsibilities are to test, repair, maintain, overhaul, and modify all mechanical plant equipment at the highest level of skill in accordance with plant procedures and directions, and to perform related duties as directed, including the duties of lower classifications.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  1. Understand and follow Company policies and procedures
  2. Understand and follow Federal, State and Company safety regulations
  3. Understand theory, operation, and troubleshooting of Plant equipment
  4. Perform repairs, maintenance, and overhaul of Plant mechanical equipment
  5. Perform job setup, including required materials, tools, rigging, and special equipment
  6. Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for the environment
  7. Perform work alone or in a team setting
  8. Guide, direct and train other employees as required
  9. Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures
  10. Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training, and experience
  11. This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  12. This is a safety-sensitive position.
  13. Support and communicate Operational Excellence goals, objectives, vision, and values.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
  2. Must meet position requirements and demonstrate competency through the established testing procedures
  3. Ability to utilize computer-based maintenance management system
  4. Ability to read and apply information from drawings and instruction books
  5. Perform basic math calculations for area, volume, material takeoff, rigging calculations, etc.
  6. Ability to perform metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding; oxyacetylene welding, cutting and heating; and arc welding as required
  7. Ability to use precision measurement tools
  8. Ability to safely operate power tools
  9. High school diploma or GED
