Job Posting Title: Mechanic/Technician

Job Details:

General Notes: Additional hours will be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular, on-site hours.

Purpose: Provide journey-level skills to perform work in a variety of trades required for the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of Texas Athletics facilities and equipment. May assist with time and material estimates and on-the-job training.

Responsibilities
  • Function 1: Assist with journey level work in installing, repairing, maintaining, and testing plumbing systems. Performs installation, maintenance, inspection and repair as needed. Assist with testing of heating, mechanical, and electrical systems including pumps, fans, and compressors. Assist with painting walls, railings and other areas in Texas Athletics facilities.
  • Function 2: Responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks independently and assist journey-level craft workers. Replace repair kits and flush valves on plumbing fixtures, change shower and faucet heads, repair drinking fountains and urinals, install sinks, and repair doors.
  • Function 3: Assist with Pre-Game and Post-Game venue set-ups and stadium cleanup. Operate forklift and carts. Drive a UT vehicle to transport equipment and supplies to perform routine and preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Function 4: Assist with journey level work installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing electrical components, electrical equipment, and systems. Respond to electrical and general maintenance related service calls. Perform installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of building and equipment, electrical systems and components. Test electrical equipment for safety and accuracy. Change lights, ballasts and outlets.
  • Function 5: Analyze computer generated work orders and prioritize repairs. Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify malfunctions and coordinate repairs with other trades as needed. Inspect and evaluate work to ensure standards are met and shop safety is maintained.
  • Function 6: Complete and submit paperwork accurately and timely. Follow all safety protocols and report unsafe conditions.
  • Function 7: Perform basic service on HVAC equipment including pumps, air handlers, changing out filters and other mechanical systems. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and perform startup of building automation systems. Read and interpret profiles and blueprints.
  • Function 8: Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Always act ethically. Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience in construction and/or maintenance and repair in a crafts trade of facilities maintenance. The three years of experience must include two years of experience in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions from supervisors, and co-workers. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three-year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Applicant selected must have an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record and valid license throughout employment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than 3 years of journey level experience in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. Experience in Residential and Commercial HVAC equipment including rooftop package units, VAV systems, Boilers, and control systems. Commercial and residential renovation experience, experience in commercial facility maintenance and repair.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$48,500 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Emergency On Call: Required to be on the on-call rotation schedule to respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours and during holidays, carry a UT cell phone, and make emergency repairs 24/7 as needed.
