Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking skilled manufacturing personnel in Goose Creek, SC for layout, assembly, and precision machining of cast and forged components used in welding and joining processes. The role emphasizes tight tolerances and quality control, with potential certification requirements.

The position is full-time, on-site, with no relocation or telework. US citizenship is required for this role and familiarity with welding-related processes is essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years additional education/experience, or an Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree with 3 years related experience.

Responsibilities

• Lays out, fits, aligns, and assembles prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations.
• Performs fitting and machining operations such as straighten, grind, burr, drill, ream, and countersink materials to close tolerances.
• Refers to general instructions to select equipment, set up, and lay out materials to be welded.
• May repair or rework parts to restore to required tolerances which have become distorted as a result of welding operations.
• May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
