Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII in Goose Creek, SC, seeks a machinist to operate light-duty bench- or floor-type tooling including lathes, mills, drills, and punches. You may set up machines, adjust them, and perform routine maintenance.

You will verify quality with gauges and fixtures, potentially work with NC machines, and support production on first shift. Candidates must meet the education/experience requirements and be able to pass a respirator fit test; relocation is not

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience. May require certification.

Responsibilities

• Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws.
• May set up machining machines and make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines.
• Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances.
• Some machines may be numerically controlled; monitor and verify quality per control procedures.
