Job Summary
The MDS-RN-Educator is a dual‑function role. It oversees the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment process and trains facility team members on clinical documentation, CMS regulations, and quality measures. The goal is to maximize Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and ensure top‑tier care.
Job Duties
- Ensuring accurate completion of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) and MDS 3.0 forms.
- Align care planning and MDS submissions with DC Health and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.
- Maximize facility revenue through accurate clinical coding and case‑mix index (CMI) optimization.
- Training and development of clinical and non‑clinical team members.
- Educate new floor nurses, LPNs, and CNAs on proper charting, restorative nursing programs, and RAI processes.
- Identify documentation trends and gaps, creating targeted training to improve 5‑star quality measures.
- Train team members on any changes to federal or DC state licensing and survey standards.
- Lead interdisciplinary care plan meetings with residents and their families.
- Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, and social workers to reflect holistic patient needs.
- Ensure proper hand washing techniques are followed and that working environment areas are clean and sanitary.
- Identify tasks that involve potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Participate in the Infection Control Program.
- Follow established procedures for safety regulations and preparedness drills.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
- Ensure residents are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.
- Report complaints and grievances made by residents to the supervisor.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property immediately.
- Assure resident privacy in accordance with resident and/or family wishes, in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Job Requirements
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington, D.C.
- 2‑4 years of long‑term care experience, with strong proficiency in MDS coding.
- Certification such as RAC‑CT (Resident Assessment Coordinator‑Certified) through the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like PointClickCare.
