Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) invites applications for a Materials Laboratory position within its Bituminous/Emulsion Materials Laboratory. You will perform hands-on testing, operate specialized equipment, and help ensure materials meet established specifications for state and local projects.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with related experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work in an engineering‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Strong mathematical skills, planning skills, attention to detail, and willingness to work in an engineering‑related job.
• Substitution: college coursework related to major duties may substitute for general experience.

• If education is used to qualify, transcripts or foreign credential evaluations may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with testing Bituminous, Emulsion, and Hot Mix Asphalt materials per AASHTO/ASTM and CDOT procedures.
• Learn and use laboratory tools including molds, glassware, thermometers, probes, and mixing equipment.
• Report test failures, abnormal readings, and issues outside normal operating limits.
• Maintain laboratory inventory and report low quantities to lab manager and technicians.
• Maintain accurate sample log-ins and assist with chain of custody processes.
• Contribute to daily lab organization and safety compliance.
