Job summary

State of Colorado's CDOT Materials team in the Bituminous/Emulsion Materials Laboratory is seeking a Materials Tester to perform hands-on laboratory testing, operate specialized equipment, and help ensure materials meet CDOT specifications and quality standards.

Primarily daytime hours, Monday–Friday, with emphasis on accurate test records, calibration checks, and adherence to safety and quality procedures to support road construction projects across Colorado.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of materials testing experience.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience assisting Professional Licensed Engineers or Physical Scientists with materials testing.
• Strong mathematical skills, planning skills, attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist with testing Bituminous, Emulsion, and Hot Mix Asphalt materials.
• Learn to use laboratory tools and equipment including molds, glassware, thermometers, digital probes.
• Report test failures, abnormal readings, and deviations outside normal limits.
• Assist with maintaining laboratory inventory and report low quantities to the lab manager.
• Maintain accurate sample log-ins and assist with the chain of custody process.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean lab.
