Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Materials Test Operator to join the Devens, MA laboratory. You will prepare specimens, run mechanical tests, and report data to support fusion-system components and HTS magnets.

Responsibilities include instrument operation, metrology, and ongoing process improvements. The role emphasizes rigorous data integrity, collaboration with engineers, and adherence to lab SOPs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training accepted.
• Minimum 2 years in materials prep and testing tools.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly, vacuum/cryogenic systems.
• Willingness to travel and to work nights/weekends/on-call.

Responsibilities

• Prepare test specimens and perform laboratory experiments.
• Support continuous improvement in the materials lab.
• Assist with inventory management and reporting.
• Execute materials tests and manage data per SOPs.
• Operate testing equipment and characterize materials.
• Maintain lab equipment and assist with calibration.
