Job summary

Granite Construction, a leading heavy civil contractor, seeks a laboratory operations leader to manage the QC lab and field testing teams. You will oversee sampling, testing, and compliance with quality standards across labs and field sites.

You will drive accreditation programs (AASHTO, ASTM, DOT), mentor technicians, and optimize QC processes using Stonemont, R18LabQMS, Autodesk Build, and HCSS. This role requires strong safety leadership and communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required
• Certification from a Regional or State Agency for material being sampled, tested, inspected is required
• NICET III certification is desired

Responsibilities

• Supervise, develop, and manage QC technicians to meet quality goals and safety.
• Perform sampling, testing, and inspection of construction materials as needed.
• Provide management with hiring, firing, and performance recommendations.
• Ensure GMS and Construction Materials Playbook requirements are followed.
• Review and communicate testing results to plant operations.
• Leverage QC software to improve efficiency.
• Train QC technicians for additional certification.
• Manage national/state accreditation programs (AASHTO, ASTM, local DOT).
• Coordinate accreditation materials and facility/equipment maintenance.
• Review and analyze results to monitor quality standards.
• Participate in quality-focused meetings and drive continuous improvement.
• Conduct safety meetings and inspections.
