Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to oversee purchasing and order coordination for a building materials distribution operation. This onsite role in Fishkill, NY, involves managing purchase orders, coordinating vendor communications, and ensuring timely delivery to support sales and customers.

The ideal candidate has extensive purchasing and ERP/MRP experience, including SAP, and a strong understanding of inventory, logistics, and procurement processes.

Qualifications

• 35+ years of purchasing experience.
• Experience with purchasing of raw materials, ideally masonry.
• ERP experience.
• Logistics and procurement knowledge.
• Experience in supply chain management.
• Proficiency in purchase order management.
• SAP system experience.
• Inventory and MRP planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing of resale and distributed products, including building materials, supplies, and related products.
• Stay on top of sales orders and ensure required materials are ordered and delivered within expected timelines.
• Create, track, and manage purchase orders from placement through receipt.
• Coordinate special-order materials requested by the sales team and communicate pricing, availability, and lead times.
• Work directly with vendors to confirm product availability, pricing, order status, and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate transportation and freight for incoming materials, including LTL, flatbed, and other specialized shipments.
• Troubleshoot transportation delays, shipping issues, shortages, damaged materials, and incorrect orders.
• Monitor inventory needs and work with internal teams to maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Obtain competitive pricing and freight rates while helping manage overall purchasing costs.
• Maintain accurate purchasing and order information within the ERP system.
• Communicate proactively with sales regarding order status, delays, special orders, and changing delivery timelines.
• Partner with sales, inventory, operations, and accounting to resolve purchasing, billing, and order-related issues.
