An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Warehouse Worker to join their logistics team. This position is located within the Warehouse area of the Logistics Service at the Asheville VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. The role involves handling and overseeing product lines, managing segments of a large warehouse, or serving as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility.
The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below.
The work involves significant walking, pushing, and pulling carts and materials handling equipment, as well as offloading and loading trucks. It includes lifting products frequently weighing over 40 pounds and handling equipment, furniture, and materials of awkward and heavier nature, sometimes exceeding 100 pounds, often requiring specialized equipment or assistance. Physical effort may increase during projects involving large quantities of products, turn-ins, shipments, and deliveries.
Operating vehicles and equipment such as forklifts or hand trucks on uneven terrain may require exerting additional physical effort. Work conditions can be hot, cold, drafty, poorly lit, and outdoors in various weather conditions. Hazardous materials may be encountered, and safety precautions, including personal protective equipment, are necessary. There is a risk of trips, falls, cuts, bruises, or injuries from equipment, and conditions may lead to serious accidents.
Applicants will be evaluated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. The job element method compares your knowledge, skills, and abilities to those required for the role. Candidates meeting the screen-out element (WG-2 and higher) will be considered further; others will be ineligible. This position requires a current and valid state-issued driver's license to operate government vehicles. Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application; however, you may be asked to provide it during the interview process.
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours per week. All experience must include start and end months and years. Part-time experience will be credited proportionally. Include detailed descriptions of duties and responsibilities, as well as hours worked per week.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, including volunteer work through programs like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps, or other organizations. Volunteer experience is valuable and counts towards your qualifications.
