Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in Washington state is seeking a Transportation Technical Engineer to lead the Materials and Fabrication Inspection Office. Qualifications

• Requires foundational literacy and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong materials testing and inspection expertise; familiarity with nondestructive testing methods.
• Ability to review complex construction plans for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inspectors at HQ Materials Laboratory Tumwater and at the Southwest Region Headquarters.
• Sample, test, and inspect fabricated products and evaluate material workmanship.
• Review nondestructive testing results (magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic) for acceptability.
• Monitor manufacturing processes; witness or perform tests and approve finished products for shipment.
• Travel statewide, to other states and internationally for inspections.
• Provide technical guidance and training to statewide personnel on inspection of fabricated materials.
