Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Construction Inspection professional to support project delivery and ensure compliance with plans, specs, and environmental permits. The Assistant Inspector will perform field inspections, material testing, and documentation using Unifier, while collaborating with teams to maintain safety and quality.

The role requires an engineering background or EIT, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering or EIT certification.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Experience with inspection/testing of construction materials and processes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction activities for compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and commitments.
• Verify contract materials are approved, sampled, and tested according to requirements.
• Clarify contract requirements and coordinate environmental compliance; elevate issues as needed.
• Prepare field notes, pay records, reports, photographs, and daily construction documentation using Unifier.
• Verify contractor payment requests and assist with CUF reviews and Wage Rate Interviews.
• Assist with training and mentoring assigned inspection staff.
• Collect material samples and perform field and plant testing per Construction Manual.
• Record and interpret test results and operate required testing equipment.
