Job description

Materials Engineer 1

We are looking for a Materials Engineer I for our Westbury, NY facility. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert of the products and manufacturing processes within the Westbury Materials Operations Team. This individual supports day-to-day powder manufacturing operations, leads continuous improvement & CAPEX projects, maintains proper documentation of Manufacturing Process Plans (MPP), and manages SAP BOM/Recipes for the products.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a technical resource for production personnel.
  • Sustain and improve product quality.
  • Support and manage scale-up and process improvement projects of various sizes.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement projects (yield improvements, cost savings, cycle time reductions, etc.).
  • Identify and validate new equipment to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Support capital expenditure projects.
  • Lead root cause investigations.
  • Address nonconformances promptly.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain SAP master data (BOMs, recipes, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Controller on product costing and financial analyses.
  • Transfer products and technologies from R&D to production (scale-up).
  • Create, update, and train staff on work instructions, batch records, and documentation.
Your Profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or materials engineering with 1-2 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a chemical or pharmaceutical environment involving powder materials.
  • Knowledge of material engineering and processing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze large-scale data.
  • Experience with root cause analysis tools/techniques.
  • Project management and leadership experience in cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication skills across organizational levels.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of powder manufacturing, thermal spray processes, mechanical engineering principles, lean and six sigma methodologies, SAP, and AutoCAD.

Additional Information:

Salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, Washington, and New York City: $80,000 - $100,000 annually. Our total package includes paid time off, holidays, personal/sick time, insurance, 401(k), and more, effective from day one.
