Job Description Materials Engineer
- The Materials Scientist will be responsible for developing innovative solutions using various materials sets to support our GCT technologies.
- Our client is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual with a strong scientific background and hands-on experience in metallurgy, thick film pastes, and sintering for implementing such pastes.
- The person in this role will be responsible for developing and testing new formulations as well as devising application-specific test vehicles to validate that key requirements are met.
- In addition, this candidate will perform research to design innovative formulation concepts in line with customer requirements for sintering pastes, run tests, and studies.

- Salary Range: $85,000 - $120,000. Based on experience and education
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop thorough understanding of paste materials, customer requirements, and support our R&D programs in developing new products to create profitable growth for Samtec’s Glass Core Technology business platform.
- Develop new material formulations, support various R&D projects, run experiments, and evaluate results.
- Contribute to patents.
- Evaluate the competitor landscape.
- Work independently on designing, executing, and interpreting experimental results.
- Maintain accurate records of experimental designs, assay development, results, and data analysis.
- Support strategies for optimizing material development.
- Follow up on issues impacting product quality, such as deviations and SPC.
- Optimize and test manufacturing processes.
- Monitor, analyze, and address SPC issues.
- Demonstrate time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Communicate and present findings effectively.
Required Skills
- 5 - 10 years of experience in a relevant scientific or technical discipline or electronic packaging, depending on education level.
- Strong analytical skills; ability to troubleshoot and overcome technical hurdles independently and methodically.
- Understanding of Design of Experiments methodologies and experience analyzing data with statistical tools.
- Detail-oriented with good time management skills.
- Proactive and cooperative team player.
- Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
- Ability to apply fundamental theories to engineering problems.
- Hands-on experience in sintering technologies and formulation development.
- Understanding of metrology, inspection, and failure analysis methods, including 3D X-Ray.
- Experience with continuous improvement initiatives in yield, throughput, and cost reduction, preferably in lean manufacturing.
- Detail-oriented with minimal supervision required.
- Motivated, positive attitude, eager to learn and assist on various projects.
- Knowledge of MSDS, lock-out/tag-out, and OSHA requirements.
- Hands-on approach to development and technical problem solving.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry, Metallurgy, or Materials Science with 10+ years of experience.
- PhD in Chemistry, Metallurgy, or Materials Science with 3-5 years of experience.
