Job description

Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Engineer at the Materials Lab embedded within the Rolls Royce manufacturing facility. This role provides technical assistance to the Rolls Royce customer and Element co-workers, focusing on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. Element is working towards achieving NADCAP quality system accreditation, and all duties support this effort.

Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 annually, DOE

Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical guidance and support to lab technicians and requestors.
  2. Meet with Rolls Royce requesters to define evaluation processes and techniques.
  3. Review procedures for accuracy and compliance with NADCAP standards.
  4. Perform sample preparation, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing metallurgical test specimens according to published procedures and industry specifications.
  5. Conduct metallurgical tests such as Tensile, Rockwell Hardness, and Microhardness tests following ASTM standards.
  6. Perform metallurgical evaluations and generate reports, including grain size analysis, intergranular attack/oxidation, machining evaluations, SEM/EDS analysis, coating and plating thickness, among others.
  7. Conduct weekly and monthly sieve analysis of media for the production department.
  8. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S and preventative maintenance.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience with metallurgical testing in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred: NADCAP or ISO quality system experience, aerospace industry exposure.
