Job description

Materials Engineer

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Engineer at the Materials Lab embedded within the Rolls Royce manufacturing facility. This role provides technical assistance to the Rolls Royce customer and Element co-workers, focusing on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. Element aims to achieve NADCAP quality system accreditation, and all duties support this effort.

Responsibilities

1. Provide technical guidance and support to lab technicians and requestors.
2. Interact with Rolls Royce requesters to define evaluation processes and techniques.
3. Review procedures for accuracy and compliance with NADCAP standards.
4. Perform sample preparation for metallurgical testing following established procedures.
5. Conduct tensile, Rockwell Hardness, and Microhardness tests per ASTM standards.
6. Perform metallurgical evaluations and generate reports, including grain size analysis, intergranular attack, SEM/EDS analysis, coating thickness, etc.
7. Conduct sieve analysis of media for production.
8. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S and preventative maintenance.

Skills / Qualifications

Required:

• 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of metallurgical testing experience in a laboratory setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

• Experience with NADCAP or ISO quality systems.
• Experience in the aerospace industry.
