Employment Details
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm or as determined by supervisor.
- Appointment Length: Regular continuous / Until further notice.
- Hourly range: $13.00 – $17.50 per hour (contingent upon available funding).
- Position Type: Hourly.
About This Position
This position will primarily support the Landscape Services Department by diverting materials from landfills such as cardboard, shredded paper, office paper, bottles, cans, pallets, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete work orders, collect pallets, and service trash and recycling pedestrian cans on pedestrian routes.
- Clean and maintain dumpster enclosures and perform litter pickup from campus grounds.
- Perform overtime as required, including evenings, weekends, and when the university is closed.
- Respond to emergencies and special projects which may involve difficult work conditions and irregular hours.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally more than 50 pounds.
- Operate in disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes, odors, and loud noises, including snow and ice removal tasks.
- Use PPE such as gloves and safety glasses; promote and adhere to all safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (degree conferred on or before start date).
- Material Mover I – one year of related experience.
- Material Mover II – two years of related experience.
- Material Mover Lead – three years of related experience, including at least one year at OSU Facilities Management.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses
- Valid driver’s license required before hire and maintained thereafter.
- Forklift certification within 90 days of hire.
- Material Mover Lead – completion of FM Leadership Development Program.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly, positive demeanor when interacting with customers and employees.
- Proficient with \"AiM\" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and mobile technology.
- Independent and capable of establishing effective working relationships with departmental representatives.
- Good decision‑making skills and ability to seek help, communicate effectively, and work safely around moving machinery.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical training.
- Post‑secondary education with three to five years of related experience (e.g., moving heavy materials, landscaping/groundskeeping/waste management settings, event setup).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
