Job summary

  • Pick up trash and recyclable items from buildings; sort, shred, and bale cardboard.
  • Assist with window cleaning and delivery of supplies; inspect recycling containers.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal on campus; respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Report security concerns to University Police and management; communicate workload priorities to supervisors.
  • Discuss work assignments with Supervisor/Lead to plan and prioritize workloads and ensure quality.

Position Title:

Material Handler/Recycler(Labor Crew)

Position Type:

About the Role:

This position’s primary responsibility is to assist the Supervisorof Custodial/Labor Crew/Lead for Material Handling and Recycling inprioritizing, scheduling, and overseeing the completion of workorder requests and special event arrangements. This position alsoperforms various duties to meet the changing needs of theUniversity.

  • Assist with planning and performing major relocations ofindividuals and departments to different offices and/orbuildings.
  • Pick up trash and recyclable items from buildings. Separate andshred documents, load recyclable cans, bottles, glass inappropriate area, crushes and bails cardboard. Move & deliverrecyclable products to an outside recycling center once aweek.
  • Assist with window cleaning. Assist with the delivery ofsupplies. Check recycling containers for cleanliness and condition,wash containers as necessary, and report damaged containers tomanagement.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal on campus, coordinated withthe Roads & Grounds Department. Response to emergencysituations as necessary during and after normal work hours.
  • Report security concerns such as unlocked doors andunauthorized personnel in buildings to the University Police andManagement. Also reports any problems needing the attention ofother Operations & Maintenance trades to management or WorkControl.
  • Discuss work assignments with the Supervisor & LeadMaterial Handling and Recycling at the beginning of each shift tomutually plan and prioritize workloads which includes properequipment and any appropriate instruction and advice to ensurequality performance.
  • Performs related duties of a similar nature and level ofresponsibility as required by Supervisory personnel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma/ GED with 1 year of related experience;valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to physically perform job duties with frequent mediumheavy to maximum exertion . Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. or moreon a regular basis; Must be able to utilize hand trucks, dollies,forklift, moving equipment, hand/power tools, large motor vehiclesand other related equipment.

Work schedule including days and hours are subject to changedepending on the needs of the University and the FacilitiesManagement Operations and Maintenance Department.
