JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Material Handler I safely packages and moves raw materials, finished goods, scrap materials, equipment, and other miscellaneous materials within the plant to support Manufacturing Department, Warehouse, Lab, Maintenance, and Inventory Accuracy. This position reports the status of all work to the leader.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Package all finished goods with correct packaging materials, labels, and details, per customer specifications.
- Follow schedule/instructions for materials to be moved, where to move, and how often.
- Operate all powered industrial vehicles (PIVs) and other equipment to assist with material handling.
- Secure proper lifting attachments to PIVs to move materials safely and properly.
- Load and unload materials on pallets and into warehouse racks safely.
- Organize and store materials efficiently, attaching identifying labels as needed.
- Record all materials movements into Syteline/WMS using a barcode scanner.
- Participate in Warehouse 6S and PPI initiatives and programs.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and PIVs.
- Participate in 100% of year-end physical inventory count.
- Maintain and prepare packaging supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education & Skillsets:
- Ability to read and interpret documents and follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Word, Excel, Internet, manufacturing software).
- Basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).
- Effective communication skills with workers and supervisors.
- Problem-solving skills for non-standardized situations with multiple variables.
Preferred Education & Skillsets:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior warehouse experience.
- Experience using PIVs.
Physical Demands:
- Lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Pushing or pulling heavy objects up to 250 pounds.
- Work 12-hour shifts.
- Perform repetitive tasks.
- Stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk routinely.
- Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in tight spaces.
- Good close vision, depth perception, and focus ability.
- Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate PIVs.
PPE Requirements:
- Safety shoes (steel or composite toe).
- Safety glasses.
- Bump caps.
- Protective gloves when performing certain tasks.
- Hearing protection when required.
- Other PPE as needed.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing environment with variable temperatures.
- Potential presence of dust, fumes, and odors.
- Possible mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
