Summary: Under direction of the Logistics Manager, the Material Handler 2 is responsible ensuring all material going in and out are handled in a safe and organized way. The Material Handler 2 is also responsible for helping with training with Material Handlers 1 and 2. Has a strong belief in the mission and goals of the company and the capability of working in a team environment are necessary for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meets all qualifications/requirements for Material Handler 1 and 2 and can demonstrate proficiency of essential job duties and responsibilities of these roles.
  • Pulling Packs (EWO’s, Backouts, and Roof Sheathing)

Accurately reads and understands printed Pick tickets. Assists in finding potential errors and able to identify irregularities in pick tickets. Properly labels all pulled material with address, sales orders, and quantity of bundles. Effectively stages all material pulled in predetermined staging locations. Ensures all completed paperwork is properly documented and returned to the designated complete paperwork area. Assists in training of other team members on advanced pack pulling techniques and strategies.

  • Yard Duties

Loads Loose lumber and EWP accurately and safely and offloads ALL inbound materials safely. Pre-loads all trailers prior to drivers return. Accurately reads and understands printed Delivery Tickets to ensure the correct material is being loaded for delivery. Accurately reads and understand BOL’s provided for incoming material, makes sure the paperwork is given to the Receiving Coordinator and ensures material is placed in its designated area in the yard. Ensures material is properly rotated to promote use of quality materials. Transfers material from the yard to warehouse as needed and ensure proper material is stocked. Processes material returns: Paperwork given to Supply Chain and material put back in its designated area.

  • Warehouse/Yard Cleanup

Cleans designated work areas, ensuring all debris are properly disposed of and floor/ground is clear. Keeps work area clean, organized and all material flat stacked. Ensures all material is stocked. Properly communicates material damage and loss to Material Handler Lead to ensure inventory accuracy for all discarded materials. Assists with warehouse/yard organization. As a team member, helps generate new ideas to maximize efficiency of warehouse/yard material staging locations.

  • Assists with implementations of new concepts and storage locations.
  • Consistently meets acceptable attendance and punctuality expectations.
  • Completes a daily forklift pre-inspection sheet.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Is present at workstation wearing personal protection equipment and ready to work at starting time.
  • Maintains a tidy work area.
  • Other duties as assigned within the reasonable scope of role responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Minimum one year as a forklift operator
  • Ability to safely move trucks and properly hook up to trailers.
  • Knowledge of common building materials used in residential, multi-family and commercial construction.
  • Knowledge of component manufacturing processes used in residential, multi-family and commercial construction.
  • Ability to properly pull and bundle material for pack pull types within scope of responsibilities.
  • Comfortable in an individual performance role with the ability to receive instruction.
  • Ability to train team members.
  • Ability to effectively complete all expectations of Material Handler 2.
  • Must have qualified as a Material Handler 2.
  • Attention to detail, takes pride in quality of work and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Efficient and able to complete assignments within a given deadline.
  • Strong team work ethic
