Job summary

Central Plains Steel in Wichita, KS is seeking a 1st Shift Material Handler to move metal with overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment to support all areas of the warehouse. You will work with shipping/receiving and machine operators to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery goals.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Ability to show adequate manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
• Basic measurement skills for basic math computations.
• Basic arithmetic skills for decimals and fractions.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time.
• Ability to make sound decisions combining knowledge and judgment.
• Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.
• Stand for sustained periods.
• Push or pull up to 80 pounds.
• Exposure to temperatures >100F and <32F.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships.
• Obtain certificate to operate motorized material handling equipment.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Warehousing experience preferred.
• HS diploma/GED preferred

Responsibilities

• Move metal with overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment to support warehouse areas.
• Pull and assemble orders based on shipping documents.
• Coordinate and execute material handling.
• Perform quality control inspections.
• Sort and package parts as directed.
• Tag material for identification and complete documentation.
• Complete work order paperwork.
• Operate yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane for loading/unloading trailers.
• Spot checks on inventory and tagging of material.
• Report irregularities to supervisor and follow safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
• Fulfill other duties assigned by supervisor.
