Job description

Reports To:

Production Manager

OVERVIEW:

The Material Handler's primary responsibility is the control and proper distribution of raw materials on the production floor. They are also responsible for secondary materials processing (coloring, drying, grinding, etc.) and ensuring a sufficient supply of raw materials is maintained at producing work centers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop and maintain working knowledge of material grades, dryer temperatures, labeling, inventory codes, reports, and production schedules.
  2. Upon arrival, familiarize with the current jobs in production, assess the level of material at each work center, review the production schedule for upcoming or changing jobs, and check the sufficiency of pre-staged molds and materials needed.
  3. Stage materials, tooling, and supplies for future production jobs.
  4. Maintain material lot traceability and accurate material logs at all work centers, dryers, staging, and warehouse areas.
  5. Using production schedules and reports, determine the correct material for each job, load material dryers and machine hoppers as required to maintain production levels.
  6. Blend regrind and colorants to specific specifications as instructed in the job packet documentation, quality records, or directed by supervision.
  7. Report shortages, misuse, waste, contamination, certification issues, and lot control discrepancies to supervision immediately upon discovery.
  8. Clean dryers, hoppers, loaders, material grinders, conveyors, auxiliary equipment, and part collection bins as needed.
  9. Avoid cross-grade and/or color contamination by grinding, packaging, and labeling runners and discrepant parts for material reclamation and reuse.
  10. Maintain the production floor in a clean and safe condition, always free of spills and debris.
  11. Transport materials and supplies to and from the warehouse, staging areas, and the production floor.
  12. Support company objectives, procedures, and policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Two or more years of experience in a production environment (preferably plastic molding) as an operator, material handler, utility person, set-up assistant, or in a warehouse, shipping, or inventory control position.
  2. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
TRAINING:

Certification in forklift operation, knowledge of operating other warehouse machinery, data entry, math and computer skills, physically fit with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 pounds.
