Job Summary

Under direction, the Master Tutor will work with a group of 8-15 assigned students through the LEAD Tutorial Assistance Program ( TAP ). The Master Tutor will supply effective facilitation in a manner complementing students’ academic skills while developing mastery of subject material. Student independence rather than tutor dependence will be the emphasis of the Master Tutor. Tutoring sessions may be held via virtually and may be held on campus, depending on the content. This position will also plan, prepare, and deliver large group review sessions to be held virtually and on campus as well. Finally, the Master Tutor will serve as a mentor for new tutors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of assigned academic subjects to effectively support students in developing mastery of course material.
  • Knowledge of tutoring strategies, learning theories, and facilitation techniques that promote student independence rather than tutor dependence.
  • Working knowledge of virtual learning platforms and online communication tools used for remote tutoring and large‑group review sessions.
  • Familiarity with institutional academic support services, policies, and procedures relevant to the LEAD Tutorial Assistance Program ( TAP ).
Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external contacts.
  • Skilled in planning, preparing, and delivering large‑group review sessions both virtually and on campus.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Docs, and other required software programs.
  • Capable of managing multiple tutoring groups, preparing materials, and maintaining accurate session records.
Abilities:
  • Ability to guide small groups of 8–15 students through structured tutoring sessions that enhance comprehension and academic performance.
  • Ability to mentor new tutors by modeling best practices, offering guidance, and supporting their professional development.
  • Ability to motivate and engage students in active learning, fostering independence and confidence.
  • Ability to conduct tutoring sessions in both virtual and on‑campus environments, adjusting methods to meet student needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with program staff, faculty, and fellow tutors to support program goals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage tutoring schedules, and prepare materials efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate reliability, and uphold high standards of conduct in all interactions.
Required Qualifications
Education:

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support & Tutoring Facilitation
  • Provide tutoring small group tutoring to students.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver on-campus, large group review sessions.
  • Through facilitation, develop an atmosphere of mutual trust and support within the tutoring group.
Training, Compliance & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in LEAD Master Tutor Training Manual.
  • Complete initial orientation and training.
  • Attend any additional training workshops or meetings.
  • Accurately maintain, complete, and submit both an electronic attendance log and time sheet for tutoring sessions.
Program Collaboration & Operational Support
  • Collaborate with LEAD office to handle any tutoring issues (academic or personal).
  • Perform additional duties related to supporting TAP operations.
  • Responsible for working with LEAD office manager and LEAD team to schedule, organize, and communicate tutoring session meeting time.
  • Responsible for communicating all participant tasks, expectations, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Mentor new tutors as directed by the LEAD Director.

  • Work hours may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Work hours cannot be during scheduled class time. No more than 8 biweekly.
