Title: Master Technician

Reporting To: Service Manager

Employment Classification: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary

The Flat Rate Technician (Tech) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. The Tech must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The Tech is responsible for diagnosis of automotive systems, repair and replacement of automotive parts, fluids, tires, and accessories, ensuring services are done right the first time. The Tech is expected to comply with safety, loss prevention, customer service programs, policies, procedures, and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prioritize workplace safety, follow all safety policies, complete safety training, lock out unsafe equipment, report unsafe conditions.
• Provide diagnosis, repair, and maintenance services for automotive systems, including all systems covered by ASE certifications.
• Ensure a valid Service Work Order is initiated and visibly displayed during service.
• Complete MPI and support the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
• Complete service documentation and return all unused parts after service.
• Maintain minimum productivity averages based on certification level.
• Follow VIP’s quality service policies to ensure work meets standards.
• Complete all required training and certification.
• Support and deliver the 5-for-5 process to educate customers about their vehicle’s condition.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions.
• Perform road tests post-service for safety and satisfaction.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including shop and equipment maintenance.
• Enforce compliance with safety, environmental, and ethical standards.

Performance Measurement

• Maintain minimum 50% productivity as measured by billed hours over worked hours.
• Ensure minimal rework and callbacks.

Standard Management Work Week

• Schedule: 5 days, 40 hours/week.
• Attendance: Be punctual, ready at shift start, work scheduled hours.

Required Qualifications

• Knowledge of automotive diagnostics and repair, ability to explain technical info to customers.
• Minimum of one year experience in automotive service or completion of a technical program.
• Valid driver’s license.
• ASE certifications (G1, A4, A5 recommended; all A-series for Master Technician).

Work Environment

Indoor shop with exposure to weather, chemicals, noise, and mechanical equipment. Protective eyewear required.

Physical Demands

Includes sitting, reaching, standing, pushing/pulling, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting over 21 lbs, and visual requirements. Accommodations available.
