Blue Origin is seeking a Systems Engineer III to support mass properties engineering for the Mk1 Transfer Stage. You will maintain the mass-properties BOM, drive CG/ inertia analysis, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and test teams to keep mass within targets.

This role emphasizes ownership of mass budgets, trades for minimum-mass solutions, and ensuring traceability across the vehicle lifecycle with strong communication and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of demonstrated ownership of mass budget.
• BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• US citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
• Experience with mass properties tracking and BOM management.
• Ability to collaborate across design, manufacturing, integration, and test teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the MK1 Transfer Stage mass-properties model with accurate mass, CG, and inertia data as the design matures.
• Support mass roll-ups and margin tracking against stage allocations and flag growth trends.
• Reconcile predicted vs measured mass properties and investigate root causes.
• Assist planning of CG and weighing operations including data analysis.
• Identify downstream consumers of mass properties data and delivery methods.
• Track propellant loading and burn-state mass properties across mission phases.
• Generate status reports and present findings at reviews and milestones.
• Maintain configuration control of mass properties documents.
• Document assumptions, methods, and uncertainty in all mass estimates.
• Own the Transfer Stage mass budget and allocate to subsystems; negotiate reallocations.
• Champion minimum-mass solutions across subsystems and drive reductions.
• Lead mass trade studies with manufacturing balancing mass, cost, schedule, and producibility.
• Serve as responsible engineer for mass properties at program gated reviews.
• Define uncertainty and margin methodology and set policy by design maturity.
