Job description

The Marketing Manager plays a critical role in executing a strategic, multi-faceted marketing and communications program that strengthens the Charleston Parks Conservancy’s reputation and drives philanthropy. Reporting to the Director of Development & Marketing, this position is responsible for the organization, coordination, and execution of multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all marketing initiatives align with organizational goals and deadlines.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented professional with exceptional communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a deep understanding of marketing fundamentals. This role requires a strategic thinker who can effectively lead projects, manage deadlines, and implement high-quality marketing and communication strategies while maintaining creativity and efficiency in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Marketing Strategy & Project Management
  1. Lead and implement the organization’s strategic marketing and communications plan to support its mission, goals, and objectives.
  2. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all milestones, deadlines, and deliverables are met efficiently.
  3. Oversee and maintain the Conservancy’s internal marketing matrix and project management system.
  4. Develop and maintain a comprehensive digital communications calendar, incorporating program and event marketing, community engagement, and fundraising initiatives.
  5. Collaborate with leadership to make high-level branding decisions and long-term marketing strategies.
Digital Marketing & Social Media Management
  1. Develop and execute an organizational social media strategy across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Analytics, and the Conservancy website.
  2. Create and schedule engaging social media content, ensuring alignment with key marketing pillars such as impact, brand recognition, partnerships, advocacy, audience growth, inclusion, and events/programs.
  3. Write copy and design graphics for all social media content, ensuring accuracy and consistency with brand messaging.
  4. Analyze and report on social media performance, using insights to optimize strategy and engagement.
  5. Design and execute social media marketing strategies for fall and spring fundraising campaigns.
  6. Lead SEM and SEO initiatives (as applicable).
Website Management & Digital Presence
  1. Manage and maintain website content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and an engaging user experience.
  2. Regularly update event calendars, staff pages, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising landing pages.
  3. Evaluate and improve website systems and processes, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  4. Coordinate with vendors on website redesign projects, branding updates, and technical improvements.
Email Marketing & Newsletters
  1. Plan, write, design, and execute monthly newsletters, including:
    1. Events & Programs Newsletter
    2. Conservancy General Newsletter
  2. Monitor and analyze email marketing performance to refine strategies for higher engagement and donor conversion.
Event Marketing & On-Site Engagement
  1. Develop and execute marketing campaigns for signature events such as Teddy Bear Picnic, Shucked & Sauced, Party for the Parks, Picnic in the Parks, and Light the Lake.
  2. Analyze and develop event audience to create targeted, engaging marketing campaigns.
  3. Utilize Google Analytics to track ticket conversions.
  4. Attend events to capture live content, including photos, videos, and real-time social media engagement.
  5. Coordinate event signage and branded materials, ensuring consistency and high-quality representation.
Graphic Design & Branding
  1. Design marketing collateral for fundraising, events, and community programs, including flyers, social media graphics, website landing pages, email templates, and signage.
  2. Manage brand consistency, ensuring all materials and park signage align with organizational identity and messaging.
Vendor & Consultant Management
  1. Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, and contractors to support various communication, marketing, and fundraising efforts.
  2. Evaluate third-party software and tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness in marketing operations.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  1. Lead weekly marketing meetings, creating agendas and updating the marketing matrix to track progress and next steps.
  2. Collaborate with consultants and across departments to stay informed of current and upcoming initiatives and marketing needs.
  3. Stay up to date on marketing trends and implement best practices to keep the Conservancy at the forefront of nonprofit marketing.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Required Skills & Expertise
  1. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities effectively.
  2. Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling, nuanced messaging.
  3. Meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of work, from content creation to deadline management.
  4. Proficiency in digital marketing and social media management, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Analytics.
  5. Experience with project management tools to track and coordinate marketing efforts across departments.
  6. Graphic design skills with experience using design software (Canva preferred).
  7. Knowledge of website content management systems (WordPress preferred) and email marketing platforms.
  8. Data-driven approach to marketing, with the ability to analyze performance metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with various stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
  1. Experience with nonprofit marketing and donor engagement strategies.
  2. Familiarity with fundraising platforms and nonprofit CRMs (e.g., Qgiv and Bloomerang).
  3. Experience with project management.
  4. Knowledge of graphic design basics in Canva.
  5. Basic photography and video editing skills are a plus.
TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
  1. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Communications preferred.
  2. Three to five years in a Marketing and/or Communications role.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Will spend a significant amount of time walking, standing, and bending.
  2. Will be exposed to hot or cold temperatures, outside weather conditions.
  3. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends including all signature events.
  4. Require work in a normal office setting where time is spent working on a computer.
  5. Will experience moderate noise level in the work environment.
  6. Substantial time spent working on a computer.
  7. Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
