Job summary

Ports America is seeking a Billing Specialist to join our marine accounting team in Houston. You will review vessel reports, calculate labor and equipment charges, audit contracts, and generate accurate invoices for shipping lines and cargo owners.

The role requires strong numerical skills, experience in maritime billing, and the ability to reconcile operational data with commercial agreements. You will work closely with controllers and operations leaders in a small office setting.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of billing/financial analysis in maritime/logistics
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, SUMIFS)
• Experience with Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) and ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Oracle)
• Strong numerical acumen and ability to reconcile data with contracts and tariffs
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, able to work under tight deadlines

Responsibilities

• Audit vessel logs, timesheets, and terminal data to generate invoices
• Review contracts and rate sheets to ensure correct application of charges
• Verify labor hours, overtime, and stand-by time against logs
• Collaborate with operations managers to resolve billing disputes
• Conduct monthly reconciliations, assist with accruals and revenue forecasting
• Research and resolve billing or accounting discrepancies
