Job summary

Rutgers University is seeking a temporary Marine Field Station Operations Manager to support principal investigators in complex experiments using diverse techniques. The role includes documenting work, maintaining databases, supervising hourly staff, and ensuring safe, organized laboratory operations.

The ideal candidate will manage vessel and vehicle use, train students and technicians, and coordinate field and lab activities in on-site settings at the Marine Field Station, NJ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in marine science or related field with 2 years of marine field research experience.
• Willing to complete MOITC and Rutgers defensive driving and Right-to-Know lab safety training.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to operate small vessels and supervise hourly staff.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Documents work performed, maintains research databases, and develops data for papers.
• Supervises long-term sampling programs and hourly staff at the Marine Field Station.
• Schedules and performs maintenance of specialized equipment and keeps labs clean, organized, and safe.
• Maintains wet lab operations per IACUC protocols and trains students and technicians.
• Schedules and tracks vessel and vehicle use; serves as a point of contact for internal and external constituents.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in marine science, oceanography, ecology, environmental science, or a related field
