Responsibilities

  • Assigning dockage and anchorage and keeping accurate records for marina use.
  • Maintain an accurate dock list showing vessel locations.
  • Collect and maintain accounts of monies, credit cards, inventory, and registrations.
  • Safely operate pump out boat and tender operations as required.
  • Care for docks, buildings, facilities, and grounds; enforce safety procedures.
  • Handle marina operations with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness of marina, facilities, docks, and bathrooms.
  • Empty trash and pick up debris as required.
  • Exercise expertise in customer and public relations.
  • Coordinate reservations in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Advise on docking, berthing, conditions, and procedures.
  • Monitor VHF radio in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Supervise marina surveillance and vessel movements in/out of the facility.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of floating docks and gangways.
  • May work weekends and holidays.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the marina.


MAJOR DUTIES


  1. Responsible for assigning dockage and anchorage and for keeping accurate records pertaining to the use of the Marina Facility.

  2. Maintains an accurate dock list showing location of vessels using the marina.

  3. Collects and maintains an accurate account of all monies, credit cards, inventory, and registrations.

  4. Safely operates pump out boat and tender operations as required.

  5. Responsible for care of docks, buildings, facilities, and grounds and ensuring all safety procedures are being followed.

  6. Must be able to handle most operations at the Marina without supervision.

  7. Maintains constant clean-up of the Marina, buildings, grounds, docks, public restrooms and boater restrooms.

  8. Empties trash containers, picks up trash, cigarette butts, and other rubbish as required.

  9. Exercises expertise in customer and public relations.

  10. Accommodates and coordinates reservations in a professional and courteous manner.

  11. Advises and assists in docking or departing and of conditions, berth, and procedures.

  12. Continuous monitoring and use of VHF ship-to-shore radio in a courteous and helpful manner

  13. Maintains constant surveillance of the Marina and vessels arriving, staying, or departing the marina.

  14. Oversees and performs the maintenance and repair of floating docks and gangways.

  15. May be required to work weekends and holidays.

  16. All other duties as may be assigned.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION


  1. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Assistant City Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.


GUIDELINES

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.


COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK


  • The work consists of customer relations and familiarity of power or sailing vessels, and nautical terms.

  • The purpose of this position is the operation and maintenance of the marina facility. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

  • Contacts are typically with the general public, co-workers, and other city personnel.

  • Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • May be required to work odd hours, weekends and holidays.

  • The work is typically performed mostly outside in all weather conditions, with long periods of standing. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects up to 50 pounds, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

  • Must be able to swim.


SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over part-time personnel within an area, department, or unit.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; and

  • 2-5 years of experience in marina or boating operation;

  • 2-5 years of supervisory experience; or

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work.

  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • Experience in customer service
