Position Summary
The Facilities & Marina Operations Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operations, safety, and physical condition of the club's marina basin, grounds, buildings, and recreational amenities. This position oversees all waterfront dockmaster responsibilities (transient management, dock infrastructure, marina customer service, fuel dock) while handling general maintenance duties including basic electrical and plumbing repairs, routine carpentry, and practical knowledge of mechanical and HVAC upkeep. Additionally, the role coordinates daily pool preparation and oversees event setups to support club activities.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Marina Operations & Waterfront Management
- Oversee all marina basin operations, ensuring floating and fixed docks, pilings, walkways, ladders, and safety equipment are maintained in top operational and structural condition.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot marina shore power pedestals, dock water lines, pump‑out stations, and dock safety lighting.
- Manage slip assignments, dockage logistics, and assist members and visiting boaters with tie‑ups, line handling, and utility connections.
- Enforce marina rules, environmental guidelines (Clean Marina standards), and waterfront safety protocols. (Focus is on club facility infrastructure; does not include vessel repair).
- Monitor weather conditions, tidal surges, and storm warnings; implement severe weather emergency procedures, slip reinforcement, and dock securing plans.
- 2. Facility Trades & General Maintenance
- Basic Electrical: Perform routine, basic electrical repairs such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, fixtures, standard switches, receptacles, and resetting/swapping GFCI outlets across docks and clubhouse facilities.
- Basic Plumbing: Handle simple plumbing fixes including repairing dripping faucets, clearing minor line clogs, replacing toilet components/flappers, assisting with seasonal dock water line winterization/activation, and identifying leaks.
- Carpentry: Perform deck board replacement, pier railing/gate repairs, framing modifications, drywall patching, trim work, and general structural upkeep.
- Mechanical & HVAC Knowledge: Possess working knowledge of mechanical and HVAC equipment to perform routine upkeep (replacing air filters, cleaning accessible coils, monitoring equipment for unusual noise or wear) and coordinate with licensed contractors when specialized diagnostic or major repair work is required.
- Facility Care: Maintain general maintenance logs, keep tools organized and in safe working order, and track common inventory/hardware supplies needed for day-to-day repairs.
- 3. Grounds & Recreational Amenities
- Oversee grounds appearance, including paved lots, walkways, bulkheads, turf perimeter, access gates, and trash/recycling staging areas.
- Direct daily morning pool setup during the open season: arranging and sanitizing deck furniture, skimming water surface, and deploying lane lines/safety equipment prior to member hours.
- 4. Event Staging & Logistical Support
- Review weekly Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and master club calendars to schedule staffing, floor plans, and staging requirements.
- Supervise and assist with setup and breakdown of tables, banquet chairs, staging, AV gear, outdoor tents, and portable bars for club regattas, private banquets, and holiday celebrations.
- Ensure event venues are thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and promptly returned to standard member layout following functions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or marina/yacht club operations. Prior experience as a Dockmaster or Assistant Dockmaster preferred.
- Technical Proficiencies: Comfortable handling basic plumbing and electrical repairs, routine light carpentry, and possessing general working knowledge of mechanical and HVAC equipment maintenance and small engine operation.
- Customer Service & Leadership: Strong member-facing interpersonal communication skills; capable of managing priorities autonomously and directing seasonal staff and outside service vendors.
- Certifications & Licenses: Valid Driver's License and clean driving record required. Boating safety certification, CPO (Certified Pool Operator), CMO/CMM are a plus (or willingness to obtain) ABC Fuel Operator.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Environment: Work involves significant outdoor physical activity exposed to all marine weather conditions (heat, humidity, wind, and cold).
- Mobility: Must be fully comfortable working on floating docks, boarding member and transient vessels, walking uneven surfaces, and working adjacent to open water.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, materials, and furniture up to 60 lbs safely.
- Schedule Flexibility: Must have schedule flexibility to accommodate club operating peaks, including weekend and holiday availability during the boating season, as well as on‑call readiness for severe weather and storm emergencies.
