The Opportunity

This position works out of our St. Paul, MN location, supporting the Structural Heart division.

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

The 1st Shift Manufacturing Supervisor will manage and be responsible for driving continuous improvement and lean principles on the line, and for their shift's performance with respect to safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.

1st Shift: 4 am - 2:30 pm, Monday - Thursday (occasional Fridays). Hours are slightly negotiable.

What You’ll Work On

  • Provide leadership and direction to manufacturing teams, ensuring alignment with Abbott’s safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and sustain Lean Manufacturing initiatives, such as 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Implement and sustain area Management Operations Systems, including visual management, standard work, tier meetings, key performance indicators, training, capacity, gemba walks, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and sustain OpEx tools including Line Balance/Work Content, and Standard Work.
  • Identify and eliminate waste, improve flow, and enhance team performance.
  • Monitor and analyze KPIs to ensure targets are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, HR) to support new product introductions, process improvements, and compliance initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor team leads, supporting their development and succession planning.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and internal quality systems.
  • Identify improvements through kaizen events and lean manufacturing tools, lead cross-functional teams to implement changes including engineering, quality, and R&D.
  • Oversee daily operations, maintain quality control, drive continuous improvement, manage the production team, and ensure safety compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, including goal setting and providing positive, constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at multiple organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, life sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3+ years in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device or pharmaceutical preferred).
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and GMP.
  • Lean Manufacturing principles and tools knowledge.
  • Experience with cleanroom operations and contamination control.

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
