Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ, seeks a Manufacturing/Materials Engineer to oversee and improve the AST division's production process, develop assembly methods, and promote quality across production and related departments.

The role requires 1 year of relevant experience, a BS in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, and familiarity with SolidWorks, Axapta, and Lean/Six Sigma. Travel to other Thorlabs sites may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in an electronics/electrical manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Identify problems and provide solutions for manufacturing issues relating to newly released products and existing production workflows.
• Plan production layouts to facilitate lean manufacturing and Six Sigma standards.
• Participate in design reviews with engineering to discuss procedures and potential issues prior to production release.
• Conduct training with production personnel to improve manufacturing and testing processes.
• Interface with engineering and operations to ensure transfer of new product releases per approved processes and specifications.
• Collaborate with RMA and service departments to inspect and disposition customer returns; implement root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Create and maintain manufacturing process documents reflecting current and future conditions.
• Create jigs and fixtures to improve production efficiency and reduce damage and waste.
• Assist in Rev Control and documentation verification; support ITAR restricted projects.
