Job summary
Thorlabs in Newton, NJ is seeking a Machine Shop Manufacturing Engineer to drive COGS reduction and lead digital transformation in the machine shop. You will design high-density fixtures and work with design engineers to improve manufacturability and NPIs, while ensuring a safe, productive environment for shop staff.
The role requires 1–3 years in CNC manufacturing, a BS in Engineering, and hands-on skills in Lean, ISO/ASTM, and CAD tooling.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in CNC manufacturing or related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office and strong communication skills.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.
- Knowledge of ISO and ASTM standards and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Successfully implement COGS reduction initiatives.
- Improve machine prints, process sheets, and jigs/fixturing for production.
- Implement automation and digital transformation in the machine shop.
- Develop new production metrics to drive output and quality.
- Improve in-process inspection methods and metrology equipment.
- Update drawings to improve manufacturability and support NPI.
