Job summary

Formlabs is seeking an Industrial Design Intern to join the Industrial Design team in Somerville, MA. You will help design new products from concept to production, develop compelling visual concepts, and prototype across a range of fidelity, from quick sketches to refined cosmetic models.

The role emphasizes usability testing, refining hardware experience from unboxing to maintenance, and communicating design intent through CAD.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a university degree in Industrial Design (related design or engineering degrees considered).
• Demonstrate fluency in aesthetic decision making and an eye for detail.
• Able to communicate quickly and effectively with hand sketches.
• Capable in 3D CAD, KeyShot, and Adobe CC.
• Comfortable prototyping using a variety of methods.
• Experience with engineering and manufacturability constraints.

Responsibilities

• Help design new products from idea to production.
• Develop design concepts, with clear and compelling visual communication.
• Prototype continuously, from quick mockups to refined cosmetic models.
• Test designs with users, translate results back into the design process.
• Help refine the hardware user experience, from unboxing to maintenance.
• Create high quality CAD to communicate design intent.
• Collaborate closely with Product, UI Design, Engineering, Manufacturing to develop well-balanced solutions.
• Assist with cosmetic specification and validation.

The Job:

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.

The weekly pay range for this role is:

$1,350 — $1,675 USD
